PriceGuard is built on a simple principle: your data is yours. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and how the extension works.

Data We Collect

Tracked items — stored locally on your device only, in Chrome's local storage
Extension settings — stored locally on your device only
Email address (optional) — only if you enable email notifications, stored locally and used solely to send price drop alerts

We do not collect personal information. We do not track your browsing history. We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.

How We Use Your Data

Tracked items are stored in Chrome's local storage on your device — they never leave your browser
Price checks are performed by fetching the product page directly from your browser, not through our servers
No data is transmitted to our servers during normal extension use

Affiliate Disclosure

PriceGuard is free to use and always will be. Here's how we keep it that way:

When you click through to purchase a tracked item, your link may include an affiliate tracking parameter
This means we may earn a small commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you — the price you pay is identical
We never replace existing affiliate links — we only add our tag when no affiliate parameter is already present
This is disclosed transparently here and in the extension itself

This is the honest model. We don't steal commissions from creators or hide how we make money.

Third-Party Services

Chrome Notifications API — used to deliver price drop alerts; no personal data is sent externally
Exchange Rate API — used for currency conversion; only a request for current rates is made, no personal data is included

Data Retention

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing Chrome's extension data. We have no copy of your data to delete on our end.

Children's Privacy

PriceGuard is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
